“Interventions” is an artist’s led group based in North Powys. Its core members are Ruth Carter, Tom Gilhespy, Nick Lloyd and Amy Sterly.
It was formed in 2008 with the organisation of a multidisciplinary arts residency hosting five Estonian artists from Tallinn University as part of the Walestonia Festival. The residency has now become an annual project and the September 2009 event will see the visit of five artists from Denmark.
The aims of the project are to promote a creative space where international artists from a variety of disciplines can exchange ideas and working practices between themselves and the local community during an intensive period of creating temporary artworks that have been inspired by the historic Llanfyllin Workhouse building and the nearby town of Llanfyllin in Powys, Mid Wales.
Interventions is active in promoting and increasing opportunities for international exchange between artists and building a network of contacts with individual artists and artists groups in order to sponsor individual and collective exchanges. Through continued development of these aims we hope to increase the number of residencies taking place.
Our belief is that through hosting international artists directly within our local community and offering an opportunity to exchange ideas and practices through these residencies we can help facilitate a wider cultural understanding and engender long term opportunities, connections and links for the artists, the Llanfyllin community and Wales.
